Administrative Professional’s Day is held on the Wednesday of Administrative Professional’s Week, which is the last full week of April. It is designed to recognize the efforts of secretaries and administrative assistants, and the value that they contribute to the workplace. Originally called “Professional Secretaries Day” upon its inception in 1952 by the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), its name was changed in 2000 to the present form to reflect the evolving job responsibilities of office administrators. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, there are 4.1 million secretaries and administrative assistants in the U.S. workforce, so fortunately there are many types of gifts from which to choose when buying for this holiday.
First and foremost, one must choose the correct card for the recipient’s job title. Many cards still say “secretary”, as around twenty percent of administrative employees still use that title according to the IAAP, but that term has become somewhat passé in today’s society. For many, the preferred job title is “administrative assistant”, and an increasing number of cards reflect that term. Or, to avoid any conflict, one can choose from the many cards that do not refer to a job title at all.
Probably the most popular gift that is given to administrative professionals in observance of this holiday is a gift basket. These thoughtful presents can be made up of a variety of different items, such as gourmet food, bath products, or scented candles. It is important to put some thought into the interests of the recipient in order to choose an appropriately themed basket, to ensure that the gift will be appreciated and actually used. A basket of fruit may sound boring to some, but there are some companies that will put together a collection of fruit that tastes ten times better than that which can be bought at a grocery store. A gift such as this is especially appropriate for an administrative professional who is into eating healthy. Or, for the junk food eater, chocolate or cookie baskets can be popular as well, and come in many different price ranges.
If the recipient enjoys good coffee, gift baskets are available from coffee manufacturers that combine several packages of quality coffee with designer mugs, and often a snack item such as scones or beignets. On the other hand, gift baskets containing bath or spa products are also popular, especially among female recipients. Many people have a particular scent that they enjoy, so one tip is to find out if the administrative professional has a favorite, and then purchase a basket with different products of that theme. Or, to be extra thoughtful, one can make a gift basket by buying a plain basket at a craft store and filling it with items that reflect the recipient’s interests and tastes. The basket can be finished off with clear plastic cellophane and ribbon, also available at a craft store, to present a polished, professional look.
Another popular gift choice for Administrative Professional’s Day is a selection from a florist. The most obvious option is a bouquet or basket of flowers, and since the holiday falls at the end of April, most florists will have a nice selection of spring flower arrangements available. Or, for a more high-end version, roses are another popular alternative. If for some reason flowers are not deemed appropriate for the situation, another good choice is a small potted plant or dish garden that can be either kept at one’s desk or taken home. Either choice can be combined with festive Mylar balloons, which are also usually available from the florist. Whichever gift is chosen, it must reflect the company’s appreciation for the work that is done by the recipient, so care must be taken to select something that is appropriate and thoughtful.

Do you like playing golf? Of course you are. However there is a problem. I know that improving golf swing is not easy. I know that you need some help so here are some of excellent tips:
One of the most important steps that you have to go through your golf swing is to keep your head still and look straight at the ball. The position of your head should be straight in line with your spine, and also your nose should be raised up a bit so that when you start to swing, your left shoulder fits under your chin. Don’t make the same mistake that a lot of golf players make. They tuck their heads into their chests to try and keep their heads still and look straight down at the golf ball. Unfortunately, they cannot perform a proper golf swing while in this position.
If you make this mistake then try this.
The next time you approach the ball, think the correct stance with your feet and knees in place but keep your head and back straight, bend forward slightly at the waist and look straight at the ball. If you try and take a swing in this position, your left shoulder will most likely hit your chin. While when you keep your eyes on the ball, raise your head slowly until your left shoulder does not hit your chin. Make sure that your head does not move from side to side by keeping your eyes fixed on the ball. Slowly go through the backswing and downswing portions of your golf swing. Do not hit the ball and do the follow through. Practice this portion of your golf swing focusing on keeping your head straight and eyes on the ball.
Practice this exercise in your backyard for about 25 times in a row and then take a break and relax a bit, then start again. Make minor corrections to your head and body position as needed to keep your eyes straight on the ball and your left shoulder from hitting your chin. This exercise will “train” your body, and your muscles will “remember” the correct position you need to be in to perform the movement correctly.
Also try to relax. I know it is not that easy. But keep in mind that relaxing your muscles will help you to maintain the proper balance that is important to a great golf swing. That is why it is very important to relax. Try to practice as more as you can so that you can achieve good balance. Consider the address position with your club, relax your body and try holding it there for about 30 seconds. Does it feel like you have more weight on one foot or the other? Is one part of your body more tense then another?
Keeping your head straight and maintaining decent balance are just two basic but also very important to succeed a great golf swing. Always remember that improving your golf swing begins and ends with you. Exercising the muscles of your body to properly perform specific movements takes time and practice.
As an exhibit booth design and manufacturing firm we are approached many times with potential client who require trade show displays. Some are well educated as to what is required to have a successful trade show booth, while others have no clue at all. I n simple term this may help those who wish to put together a proper RFP for their next trade show display.
Candy Adams is an exhibit management consultant wrote the following and I do agree with all of her thoughts. She writes “There are multiple schools of thought on providing exhibit houses with your budget parameters. Some believe this gives them free reign to go hog wild up to this budget number. Other believe that the exhibit house, who will become one of your critical show team members, needs all the information they can get to do a good job for you. There is no ‘right’ answer, but I lean more toward full disclosure of budget information (or at least giving a 90% figure so I still have a few pennies left for last minute requests and upgrades) and then requesting a line-item budget based on the areas below to make comparison between the proposals easier. Include information to the exhibit house regarding the flexibility of the budget. Is it all- inclusive and there’s not a penny more to be had in your corporate piggy bank, or is there a budget range ($40,000-$50,000)? Also let them know if your analysis and decision to choose a proposal is more design- or cost-oriented. You’ll also want to know their payment
terms and when deposits and progress payments will be due.Budget line items to request the exhibit house include in their proposal: Exhibit design, production of drawings, construction (including all labor, materials, fees, and taxes), drawings and set-up instructions, exhibit preview, project management fees
- Graphics
- Lighting
- Audio-visual equipment
- Computer equipment
- Furnishings including tables, chairs, stools
- Flooring
- Crates or cases
- Gang box and supplies
- Ongoing cost of ownership, including general maintenance, sometimes called
- refurbishment, storage, graphics upgrade, flexibility to different configurations.
You’ll also need to determine the ownership option that’s most advantageous. Options include renting at approximately 1/3 of the cost of owning for one-time use (plus the cost of graphics), negotiating for multiple uses with an ownership option after a pre-determined number of uses, to lease it, or to purchase it outright. TIP: Your accounting department will be able to guide you through this part of your RFP, depending on whether they want to capitalize the exhibit properties or expense them. If capitalized, you’ll need to work with accounting to determine the “life” of your exhibit for depreciation purposes, which is usually either 3 or 5 years.”
Gathering these ideas together before you contact an exhibit house is a wise idea, it only helps in getting the best and most cost efficient trade show display as possible. For more information on trade show displays please contact ELDS, Inc at (626) 969-3399
Sculpture is a fantastic three-dimensional art form. Sculpted works are made from the four basic processes of carving, modelling, casting and constructing, and the styles used by artists range from portrait, figurative and surrealist.
A portrait sculpture captures a representation of a human, and the face and expression are the main focus. The sculpture will display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. In the Roman era, the portrait style flourished. Sitters demanded realistic portraits (even if they were unflattering). The style retreated in the 4th century in favour of an idealized symbol of what a person looked like but returned in Europe during the late middle ages.
Portrait sculpture is among the most ancient and enduring of arts and the technical aspect of capturing a likeness continues to absorb and fascinate artists. Portrait busts capture a transcendent likeness and they range in mood from different perspectives and lighting. They are a tradition with which we have honoured our heroes and continue to do so to this day.
Figurative sculpture describes sculptures that are clearly derived from real object sources (particularly the human form). The term “figurative art” is often taken to mean art that represents the human figure, or even an animal figure. Figurative art is based upon an understanding of abstracted shapes. The great figurative sculptor is the Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti who is famous for his elongated statues.
Surrealism is a cultural and revolutionary movement from the early 1920s led by André Breton. It developed out of the activities of Dada in World War I and centred around Paris. Surrealist art works aim to reveal the unconscious and reconcile it with the conscious. They typically feature the element of surprise and the unexpected and the artist can let their imagination run wild.
Many sculptors are happy using all three styles and many different mediums such as Buckinghamshire sculptor Andrew Sinclair, whose work can be seen in country homes, on city desks, ocean liners and in public spaces. He descibes himself as a portrait sculptor, figurative sculptor and surrealist sculptor.
