The Difference In Our Attitutes To Types Of Health Products
When you get older, taking care of your body is something that becomes more important to you. People have no issues with purchasing health products for their teeth and signing up for their local dental practice’s dental plans but often with an embarrassing illness like incontinence things are not always so easy.
Dental health care is an area of the health market that has expanded recently in the United Kingdom. This is down to a number of factors. To start with cosmetic surgery has rapidly been on the increase in the UK since the 90’s. As well as this it has also become more socially acceptable and more common place to have cosmetic surgery on parts of your body that you are unhappy with. There have also been more advances in dental surgery and a rise in the number of private dental practices and dental plans.
The rise in cosmetic dental surgery has also meant that procedures like tooth whitening have become more popular. The increase in the number of people investing in laser teeth whitening has sparked a rise in the number of home teeth whitening kits. These tooth whitening kits go from whitening gel, home laser tooth whitening kits and crest whitestrips. All of which are simple and easy to use by yourself.
Individuals who buy these types of health care products do so freely and are proud of their whitened teeth. However this is not true of all medical conditions because some have a social stigma. Embarrassing illnesses like incontinence can leave people feeling alienated and alone. Often people are so humiliated by these types of condition that they rarely buy incontinence products such as incontinence pads from their supermarket. This is a disappointment because it is not an illness that only affects the elderly. A large number of sufferers of incontinence are women and this is usually due to childbirth and muscles being strectched during the process.
It is a shame that our attitudes are not different, as it seems very silly to be embarrassed about something that is a health condition rather than an action that you can control.
