What is MRSA? No comments yet

MRSA was first noted in 1961, about two years after the antibiotic methicillin was initially used to treat S. The resistance to methicillin was due to a penicillin -binding protein coded for by a mobile genetic element termed the methicillin resistant gene (mecA). MRSA usually show resistance to many antibiotics . MRSA acquired in the community may have broader antibiotic sensitivity.

MRSA does its damage to people with weak immune systems. Hospitals and retirement homes are places where MRSA tends to spread the most. MRSA is spread by skin-to-skin contact. CDC investigations have noted more clusters of MRSA skin infections among athletes, military recruits, children, men who have sex with men, and prisoners. MRSA has become more popular recently in the United States. It is a Staph infection that has become resistant to certain types of antibiotics that are normally used to combat these infections.

MRSA is spread by contact. So you could get MRSA by touching another person who has it on the skin. MRSA Infection can cause a broad range of symptoms depending on the part of the body that is infected. These may include surgical wounds, burns, catheter sites, eye, skin and blood. MRSA has been recognized as a problem in the healthcare setting for over 20 years. The CDC believes that MRSA has been emerging in the community over the last several years for reasons that are unknown. Make sure you konw the different

Staphylococcus aureus (staph) bacteria are commonly found on the skin (armpit, groin, and genital areas) and in the nose of many people and normally do not cause illness. However, when these bacteria enter the body through a break in the skin, they can cause small infections such as pimples and boils. Staphylococcus Aureus had again become evolutionist in nature and was now resistant to Methicillin. Staphylococcus aureus, often referred to simply as “staph,” are bacteria commonly carried on the skin or in the nose of healthy people. Approximately 25% to 30% of the population is colonized (when bacteria are present, but not causing an infection) in the nose with staph bacteria. Make sure you know the different MRSA Symptoms

Staph infections are spread by direct physical contact with the bacteria. It is almost always spread person-to-person, but can be spread through contact with contaminated surfaces, personal items or equipment. Staph aureus bacteria is carried by 1 in 3 people. Many people carry or are colonised by staph bacteria, have no symptoms and only suffer an infection when they have another illness, wound or graze. Staph-contaminated items and surfaces, crowded conditions, and poor personal hygiene increase the risk of infection, and may be found in school settings. However, it is important to note that staph infections can be prevented by simple measures such as washing hands thoroughly before cooking or eating and after using the restroom, and cleaning and covering all cuts and scrapes until they are healed.

Obedience Training for your Dog No comments yet

Obedience training is one of the most important aspects of having a dog.  When I say training I mean more than just house training your puppy. In fact, if you love your dog and you love being a dog owner, both you and your dog will be happier, easier to live with and get along with, and even safer than if you fail to train your dog.

A well-trained dog is a pleasure to own.  A well-trained dog requires fewer restrictions and a well-trained dog does not create embarrassment and will always reflect well upon his or her owner.

Just to cite a few examples, a well trained dog will not frighten or annoy the visitors to your home with excessive barking, inappropriate jumping or other annoying habits.  Also, a dog that is leash-trained and will heel nicely at his owner’s side and will do a sit command without hesitation is much more welcome in a public place among other people and pets than a rowdy and out-of-control.  The bottom line is that the more reliable and trustworthy your dog is, the more of a pleasure he is to own.  Also, a well-trained dog receives much more positive attention and interaction from other people, be they family members, friends or even people you have never met before.  Nobody enjoys an unruly and ill-mannered dog but a well-trained and obedient dog can melt many hearts.

You are your dog’s leader.  You are the alpha dog.  It is your responsibility to turn your puppy into a well-mannered adult dog.  Training also strengthens the bond between a dog and his or her owner.  It builds mutual respect, communication, understanding and makes it clear to your do that you are the leader of the pack, or what is commonly referred to as the “alpha dog”, if your dog does not respect you as the leader, both of you will encounter problems, especially if your dog is a bit more high strung and rowdy by nature.

A well-trained dog that responds quickly and efficiently to voice commands is also a much safer dog.  Imagine if your dog slipped out of his collar in the middle of a busy intersection, if you can safely heel him back across the street and then have him sit and put his collar back on, many tragedies could be avoided.  Also, if the gate is inadvertently left open and your dog leaves the yard, if he is trained to follow your commands you can quickly bring him back home, saving you time, energy and frustration.

Many of the dogs that end up in shelters do so because of a lack of training by their owners.  It is the owner’s responsibility to train the dog to conform to the family’s rules and to be a good “dog citizen”.  A well-trained dog is also easier to adopt into another family, thereby saving the dog from an untimely end.  Far fewer dogs would end up in shelters if the owners took obedience training seriously. A well-loved and well-trained dog is a pleasure to own.  A rowdy and out of control dog is a hardship to own but it is not the dog who is responsible for that.  It is always the owner.

A well-behaved and properly trained dog is a pleasure to own.  Your dog will be able to go anywhere and do anything without being a nuisance or annoyance to you or to others.

The Grace of Ballet Shoes No comments yet

The beauty of ballet does not occur overnight. The beauty of the dance and the presentation is a result of hard work in training. It is a passion and a vocation. And to ballet dancers, ballet slippers are an integral part of their being.

It is not easy to dance on one’s toes, but years of practice have taught ballerinas to do so. In some schools, to dance en pointe is not taught until after five years of study and hard work. Though the slippers look flimsy, these are the only equipment a ballet dancer has on stage, everything else is a costume.

Designed to be light, the shoes allow the dancers to fly and jump unimpeded. Unfortunately the very same design which allows the dancers to soar may not last too long due to their thin soles and the large amount of use.

Ballet shoes are typically created from soft leather, canvas or satin. Leather shoes are durable and last long. These also keep the feet warm. Not as sturdy as leather, canvas shoes are are ordinarily worn by men. Satin ballet shoes are are usually worn by women and can be easily dyed to change the shoe color.

Ballet dance slippers have elastic bands to strap the shoes to the feet. Ballet shoes may be secured with a single band across the foot, or with two crossing bands in an “x” shape.

Very cute and smart looking, bridal ballet shoes mirror ballet dancers. Looking like flimsy beings on stage, dancers are some of the most nimble artists, spending hours daily to keep flexible and in shape. The same could be said of their shoes. These may look like small and thin objects but are actually very strong to keep up with the ballerinas wearing them.
