AED Basics

An AED is a tiny , cartable tool that assesses the heart’s rhythm for any irregularities and, if sensible, directs the rescuer to provide an electrical shock to the heart of an sudden cardiac arrest victim .  This shock , called defibrillation, can help the heart to regain a normal rhythm .

An AED employs   voice prompts to instruct   the trained help. As soon as the equipment is turned on , the trained help will be directed to place the two pads provided with the AED to the SCA vistim’s chest. When applied , the Automated External Defibrillator will begin to monitor the sufferer’s heart rhythm.  If a “shockable” rhythm is recognized, the machine will charge itself and instruct the rescuer to steer clear of the SCA victim and to push the shock button.
